Gil Roman gives ‘carte blanche’ to Giorgio Madia, Italian choreographer and former dancer of the BBL, to create Swan Song for the company.
Inspired by excerpts of Maurice Béjart‘s interviews, Madia analyses the master’s influence on his own work, reflecting on the archaic meaning of dance, its impulse, its vital energy and the connection to music. Giorgio Madia filters some of the most important artistic legacy that the master has left him, and conceives a parallel with himself and his former colleague Gil Roman for whom the principal part of this ballet is created bespoke, because he impersonates “the connection between the past, present and future of Maurice’s heritage”.
